LOVE WORKS

Hi all,

On Saturday October 25th we will be having our first Love Works Service Project. We will be meeting at Windermere Community Church at 8:00am and be heading down to The Destiny Foundation downtown to help them as the serve the community to break the cycle of poverty. We will be returning to the church at about 1:30pm.

Does it ever seem like you can never get peace and quiet? Our world is becoming increasingly chaotic. Not that we are always victims...how much of it is self-imposed?

This week, Pastor Andrew will be sharing about the importance of silencing ourselves and our world so that we might come into the presence of God. This is a message a lot of us need hear, it should be good.

THE MOST LOVING THING

This week, Pastor Andrew talked about doing the most loving thing. What is the most loving thing you have done for someone? Or what is the most loving thing that someone has done for you?

This week at The Ascent, Pastor Andrew spoke on the importance of scripture in our lives. The main text was Luke 24:13-31 in which the resurrected Christ explained scripture to some of the disciples. In this passage, we see how critical the understanding of scripture is in our lives; so much so, that the disciples were kept from recognizing who Jesus while He was explaining the scriptures.

Why were they kept from recognizing Him? The disciples were talking to man who they knew died three days prior. If they had known who it was, could you imagine the emotion that would be racing through them? The excitement, awe, wonder, curiosity, and joy. It would not have been an environment conducive to listening to a dissertation on Old Testament teachings and prophecies. Imagine you see someone that you knew had died. Would you want to listen to a lecture, or rejoice? Scripture is so important that God hid His Son's identity from the disciples so that He could effectively explain it to them.

Pastor Andrew issued a challenge to The Ascent this week. As a community of believers, we will be memorizing The Ascent's theme verse:

Who may ascend the hill of the Lord? Who may stand in His holy place? He who has clean hands and a pure heart, who does not lift up his soul to an idol or swear by what is false.
Psalm 24:3-4

The Word of God is living and active and is an incredible gift to us. What will you do with it this week?

As I was doing some Bible study this morning, I was reminded of something important: the faithfulness of one can affect the masses. Think about it. The faithfulness of Martin Luther King Jr. to equality impacted the world. The faithfulness of Mother Theresa to the poor impacted the world. A true faithfulness can have a negative impact too, when it leads in the wrong direction. The faithfulness of Adolf Hitler to his cause impacted the world. Because of the dedication of these people to there ideals, they are household names and have deeply impacted their community and the world forever.

This morning I read in Genesis about Joseph. As a young man, Joseph was his father's favorite son and all of his brothers knew it. Long story short, his brothers sold him into slavery and then faked his death to his father. Joseph went through many trials, faced temptations, but remained faithful to his God in the face of it all. Because of his faithfulness, Joseph was eventually put into a position to rule over all of Egypt...I would imagine this to be along the lines of being President of the United States. He was one of the most powerful men in the world. He arrived to a position of influence and power by being faithful in the little things and in the hard time. Because of his faithfulness, he was able to bless and entire nation. In this position, he was also able to turn around a bless his brothers in a time of famine. His family was given the best of the best, not because they deserved it. These were the same men that sold their brother. They were blessed because of Joseph's faithfulness.

Hi all.

The launch went great! Last Saturday night, we met together in the first official, full-fledged Ascent service. We are so pumped about the work that God is doing: drawing people to His name, rekindling the flame in those who have gone afar, and working in a community. We will continue this weekend talking about connecting with God in a chaotic world this weekend. The primary focus will be the way that scripture brings us closer to our creator. See you soon!

LAUNCH THIS SATURDAY

Hi Ascenters.

We are so excited about our first "full-fledged" service this Saturday night! For the next six weeks we are going to be discussing how to connect with God in a chaotic world. This Saturday, we will discuss how we connect with God through Jesus Christ. Pastor Andrew will be laying out the Gospel as simply and clearly as possible...that's what it's all about.

Please pray that God would use The Ascent to accomplish His will. Pray for our team that we would have focus, perseverance, and diligence in doing what God has called us to do. Pray that hearts will be turned to God and that Christ would reign in the lives of every member of this community.

We are looking forward to what is ahead; expectant of a move of God. You better believe we will be keeping you (better) updated! :)
